Pre-set the oven to 160°c
Beat the sugar and butter together until light and fluffy and then add the egg gradually.
Add the flour, baking powder, ground almonds, cocoa and milk, and mix until smooth. Add then add the chocolate chips.
Pour into a lined loaf tin and bake for 1 hour. Use a skewer or knife to check whether the cake is done.
For the chocolate fudge topping, heat the sugar and evaporated milk in a pan until the sugar has dissolved.
Bring to boiling point, stirring continuously and then reduce the heat and leave to simmer for 6 mins.
Remove from the heat and add the chocolate pieces. Mix with a balloon whisk until smooth and then add the butter and vanilla.
Allow to cool before transferring to a bowl. Cover with cling film and refrigerate until it's ready to spread on the cake.
